Drake Maye's Team, Jaxson Dart's Problem

Drake Maye is a genuine superflex QB1 and Jeremiyah Love in the third is a real swing at a backfield. Trey McBride at tight end is the best non-Bowers answer available at the position, and Terry McLaurin, Tetairoa McMillan and Jameson Williams give the receiver room three different ways to score. Daniel Jones in the eighth is the third quarterback, which is the correct amount of insurance.

Jaxson Dart as the second starter is the load-bearing risk. He is a rookie being asked to produce six-point passing touchdowns every week from the moment the season starts, and rookie quarterbacks are famously a smooth, linear experience. Mike drafted two quarterbacks in the first thirty-five picks and both of them are still figuring out professional football. That could look brilliant in November. It could also look like two lineup slots producing single digits.

The backfield is the actual crisis. Behind Love there is Jonathon Brooks, a running back whose young career has been defined by knee injuries and rehab timelines, and Kaleb Johnson in the fifteenth. That is it. Two running backs and a rookie who has spent more time in a training room than a huddle, in a league that starts two plus a flex. Jake Ferguson gives the roster a second tight end for one slot, and Cameron Dicker and the Lions defense arrive appropriately late. The receiver room is deep enough to carry a flex. The backfield is one bad Sunday from a waiver-wire emergency.
