Elite Running Backs, Malik Willis As QB2

Jahmyr Gibbs first overall, CeeDee Lamb, then Kyren Williams and Breece Hall. That is a backfield nobody else in this league can match, three genuine every-week starters plus Rico Dowdle later as a fourth. In half PPR that is points every Sunday. The problem is that only two of them can start, and the flex is one seat.

Justin Herbert is a fine QB1. Malik Willis is the second quarterback, and Willis has spent his career as an emergency option, a backup who was genuinely good in relief and then handed the job back the moment the starter was healthy. In a format that starts two quarterbacks with six-point passing touchdowns, that is a hole in the lineup card every single week, not a bye-week problem. Fernando Mendoza arrives in the fourteenth as the third arm, which is a rookie flier rather than a solution.

The bench is where the resources went instead. Two defenses, Broncos and Rams, taken in back-to-back rounds. Both play the same Sunday, both occupy a spot, and only one can be in the lineup. Add Dallas Goedert at tight end, a player whose seasons come with a missed-games line item, plus Tee Higgins and Michael Pittman Jr. as the receiver support behind Lamb, and the five bench slots are already full before anyone considers what happens when Herbert has a bye. Jay built the best set of running backs in the room and then left the most valuable position in the format to a guy whose job is to hold the ball until somebody else arrives.
